Upon reflection, Term 2 proved to be interesting in that my job changed a couple of times. From the job I started at the beginning of the year to the job/s that evolved over Term 2, it was necessary for me to be flexible and go with the flow to help out Solway in what was a Term of change in personnel in management.
So the term saw me start with a change from term 1 - I was now in Matai and Harakeke 1 day a week, continuing with SPRING into Maths and only doing some CRT release. I stopped doing the Assessment days and Geraldine's release days. I also dropped from .9 to .8.
As the term went on things changed in management and also the NE class started to get very full. So in Week 6, my job changed to me working with 15 Year 1's. The oldest being at school for 8 months and the youngest only 3 months. We opened up the Library to use as a class. This proved to take a lot of time as I was aware of the changes that these children had already had at school and it was important that the children and parents felt that the library was their classroom and they belonged in there. It took time to set up the room and make up areas of authentic learning. PBL was also new to me, although going to the Longworth course in Term 1 was very helpful. I worked in Pohutukawa Mon-Thu 8:55-12:45 and then did SPRING into maths. This was not always ideal and was often missed out as the afternoons proved busy within the different classes. But we all just got on with it for the last 5 weeks of the Term.
So all in all it was a muddly term but also very rewarding as I got to be in Matai and Harakeke and see the way that they are teaching and learning in there. I got to work with the 15 children in Pohutukawa and develop positive relationships with them and their parents and then to be able to commit to them for the rest of the year feels important.
I am looking forward to the rest of the year.
